WHO WE ARE

Hollywood Helps is founded by individuals in the film industry, who have experienced houselessness firsthand, and we seek to harness the resources of the Hollywood film industry, in order to better the lives of Los Angeles residents, from all walks of life, first by focusing primarily on the houseless and displaced.

We safely package individual "crafty packs" or care packages, from generous donations contributed by production companies and individuals across the greater Los Angeles area and involved in all areas and facets of production.

At this time, our main focus is shelf-stable, individually-packaged food products, such as chips, crackers, granolas, etc, as well as hygiene products, like sanitizing wipes and body care products, also PPE, like face masks and sanitizers.

However, we are open to all donations, great or small, and if we are unable to maximize your contribution, we will work with city partners to see it done.

LA HOUSELESS CRISIS

According to the 2020 'LA County Homeless Count,' Los Angeles county's homeless population increased by 12.7% over the previous year, while the city's homeless population jumped by 14.2%. In January 2019, Los Angeles County had 58,936 people experiencing homelessness, but by January 2020, the number rose to 66,433. The city of Los Angeles counted 36,165 in 2019 and 41,290 in 2020.

Due the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, no formal survey was conducted in 2021; the ongoing 2022 'LA County Homeless Count' is expected to be published this summer.

In spite all of this, "film sets are notoriously wasteful places," opens a particularly pertinent  Los Angeles Times article highlighting food waste on film sets, later reporting some big-budget studio movies can generate as much as 72 tons of food waste, almost all of which could be donated to better the lives of LA residents.
